Rattlesnake Vaccine On Sale Now!

Rattlesnake vaccination can reduce the overall effects of a snakebite.  Vaccinated dogs experience less pain and a reduced risk of permanent injury. The vaccine can reduce or eliminate the need for antivenom treatment and decrease other treatment costs as well.

We at Tri City East Veterinary Hospital recommend rattlesnake vaccine for hunting or hiking dogs, as well as dogs that live in rattlesnake infested areas.

Initially you pet will receive two vaccines 3-4 weeks apart.  Subsequent booster doses are recommended annually in the Spring.

Remember even after you dog is vaccinated against rattlesnake venom, he/she should be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation for care as soon as possible following a snakebite.  Even bites by non-venomous snakes can lead to serious infections and antibiotic treatment may be needed.

FREE VACCINATION!

Wellness medicine helps us to keep healthy pets healthy.  The foundation of sucessful disease prevention is early detection.  When disease can be detected early, we can often make relatively minor changes in the diet or institute medications that will yield a longer, healthier life for your pet.

Testing helps our doctors see everything that can not be seen in a physical exam.  If a disease is found in its early stages, there are steps that can be taken to manage or correct the problem before permanent damage is done.  Idenifying slowly progressing, low grade illnesses that affect your pet can be extremely difficult when symptoms are absent.  Since most domestic pets have an immense capacity to compensate for the loss of more than 70% of healthy liver and kidney tissue, for example, most diseases affecting these organs have been present for some time before symptoms are obvious on the outside.

Here at Tri City East Veterinary Hospital we know that pets are family members and that their owners want them to live the best quality life possible.  Detecting disease early prolongs the quality of your pets'  life and preventing disease is much cheaper than treating it.

Remember our pets can't talk and will hide illness so that clinical signs of disease often will not develop until late in the disease process.  Many diseases can be detected much earlier through laboratory testing.  Laboratory screening is very reasonable in cost, it increases the safety of anesthesia, provides " baselines" for future health assessments and provides "peace of mind".

It is highly recommended that wellness blood testing be done at least once-a-year.  One year in the life of your pet is the same as 5-7 years in a human and represents 10-20% of their life span.  Since monitoring your pets' health status on a regular basis can help us detect minor changes that signal the onset of disease we are giving a FREE VACCINATION TO ALL PATIENTS THAT PARTICIPATE IN HEALTHY PET WELLNESS TESTING.

February is Pet Dental Health Month

Proper dental hygiene is as important for pets as it is for pet owners!  Veterinarians report that periodontal disease is the most commonly diagnosed problem in dogs and cats.  This can lead to painful infections of the mouth and in severe cases, these infections can spread and become life-threatening conditions.

During Pet Dental Health Month, the American Veterinary Association is encouraging all dog and cat owners to regularly brush their pet's teeth and regularly see their veterinarian for checkups.

At Tri City East Veterinary Hospital we feel strongly about dental health.  Therefore you are invited to have your pets teeth examined free of charge and receive a 25% off coupon on all dental services scheduled during the month of February.  That means you can schedule your pets dental services NOW and receive the discount in March!

Hope to see you soon. Dr Cromer

November is Diabetes Awareness Month

Just like humans, dogs and cats can get diabetes.  As a pet owner, you could be the first to spot the symptoms of diabetes.  The most common symptoms to look out for are:

Increased Hunger - Frequent Urination - Weakness or Fatigue - Excessive Thirst - Sudden Weight Loss

If you recognize any of these symptoms in your dog or cat, contact your veterinarian for a diabetic screening.

TURTLE TIME!

Summer heat is finally behind us! Homeowners, landscapers and golf courses are overseeding.  In the high country leaves are turning...  This is turtle time!  That time of year to pay attention to our turtle and tortoise friends.  October is the perfect time to exam these pets and check them for parasites, while they are active, before hibernation.

Does your tortoise weigh enough to survive 4-6 months of sleep?  Does your turtle have a vitamin deficiency?  Hibernating sick or with a parasite load,or not weighing enough could be deadly!

In addition to a comprehensive physical examination, our patients will receive a complementary fecal test (parasite check).  This is a $26 savings.  Schedule today for your turtle or tortoise.  We offer this discount pricing to all bird and reptiles too-Only during October!  It's TurtlleTime!
